References

Explore the following links and handouts to help develop your reference list. Career counselors are available to assist in creating and critiquing your reference list. Call the Career Development Center at (206) 281-2485 to make an appointment.

Often employers will request a list of references during the application process. Generally, you should be able to provide a list of at least three individuals who can speak about your skills and qualifications. It is your job to carefully choose your references, ask if they are willing to be a reference BEFORE you include them on your list, provide them with a copy of your resume, convey to them why you are applying for the particular position, and anything else you might want them to include or emphasize if they are asked for a recommendation.

Your reference list should include their name, title, company/school, address, phone number, email and their relationship to you (i.e.: supervisor, professor, former supervisor, etc).
