Information for NWAS Off-Site housing possibilities

We've got great inexpensive housing available at the Cornet Bay Environmental Learning Center (see the registration form for details). To be fair, it's rustic.  No pets are allowed on site.  And you'll need to bring all your own bedding, pillow, ad towels/soap/etc.

Tent camping is allowed on-site. Tent and car/trailer camping can also be done at the main campgrounds at Deception State Park about 10 minutes away. See: http://www.parks.wa.gov/  Reservations are required.

For those of wanting something more luxurious, here are some suggestions:   Motels are available nearby in Oak Harbor (about 20 minutes to the south) or in Anacortes (about 30 minutes to the north) See the internet for names, locations and reviews. I did a little reconnoitering in January. The two closest motels on the strip north of Oak Harbor, on the way to Cornet Bay are:

1.  Best Western Plaza http://www.bestwesternwashington.com/hotels/best-western-harbor-plaza/ I have arranged for a special rate for NWASers- call the motel itself  (360/679-4567) and ask for the rate for Northwest Algal Symposium (NWAS). Do not use the internet or call their 800 number. They gave me a rate of $99/night (down from $159).

2.  Auld Holland Inn  Joe Franssen
33375 State Route 20
Oak Harbor WA 98277
(360) 675-2288

A little cheaper, more "charm"-  this is the one that has the windmill out front. It's a quarter mile closer to Deception Pass.
Make your reservations early. There is a marathon and Holland Days in Oak Harbor in April (not this weekend, though) so rooms will go quickly.
