The 22nd NorthWest Algal Symposium (NWAS) will
meet on the weekend of April 4th-6th, 2008 at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in Charleston
Oregon. OIMB (located near Coos Bay) was founded in 1924 and is situated next to cape Arago, Sunset Bay and the South Sough National Estuarine Research Reserve, some of the most beautiful marine and estuarine habitats on the Oregon coast. This small but well equipped campus in picturesque surroundings provides an ideal settting for this years NWAS meeting. The symposium will include oral and poster presentations covering any aspect of macro or microalgal research and this year we also particularly welcome talks on seagrasses. The symposium will provide an excellent forum for the exchange of information and ideas in a relaxed and informal setting, long term algal aficionados and novices alike are encouraged to participate. Graduate students are, in particular, most welcome! Awards will be presented for the best student poster and best oral presentation. Housing will be provided on campus and in local motels. Field trips will be offered on the Friday prior to the opening reception, including the traditional intertidal excursion to a local beach and a kayaking trip in South Slough as well as phytoplantkon tows. Lab space with running sea water will be available for algae-pressing and drying, as well as microscope use. (for phytoplankton people). The 2nd Announcement will be available in early February ,
including registration forms, instructions for accommodations & meals,
directions and a call for abstracts. Registration & Abstracts will be
