Conference Fund Proposals
The goal of the ASSP Conference Fund is:
- Further community
- Promote an atmosphere conducive to individual and corporate
growth with a Christ-centered perspective
- Advocate the concerns and needs of students
- Promoting the best interests of the students and of
the institution in fulfilling its mission in higher education
If you have a conference that meets the goals above, you
may be eligible to receive funding. The following guidelines
are used when determining conference fund eligibility:
- ASSP assists in the funding of conferences; it does
not fully cover all expenses of conferences.
- There must be a demonstrated need to attend conference.
The attendee must have a plan for reporting back to the
SPU community the influence of the conference, and how
it relates to our campus and community as a whole.
- Must come to Finance Board at least 3 weeks (4 Fridays)
in advance of the conference.
- It must be student-initiated. Must be brought and proposed
by the student, and faculty or staff assistance is welcomed.
- The actual Conference Fee is the first priority, followed
by travel costs. Matching IRS guidelines regarding travel,
ASSP will not reimburse any food costs.
- The number of people attending as well as previous year's
attendance will be taken into consideration. Generally,
there is capped limit of $900 and/or 3 people.
- The maximum Finance board may recommend to Senate is
$350. Most Students do not receive this high level of
funding.
- A student may utilize this fund only one time per year.
If you still believe that your conference fits into the
guidelines above, the process for applying for conference
funding is below:
- Prepare a draft proposal using the draft
conference proposal worksheet, with the assistance
of your ASSP
Senator. You need to request the sponsorship of your
Senator, as they will help you word and prepare your conference
fund proposal.
- Do not submit any finance proposal unless it
has a Senate sponsor. To identify your Senators,
please click
here.
- After you have worked to develop a draft proposal, send
it to the ASSP
Vice President of Finance with a introductory paragraph
in the body of the email. Please check the current
submission deadlines for Finance Board proposals.
- The VP of Finance will email you back with feedback
or any other issues regarding the proposal. Again,
the proposal must identify the Senate sponsor in the proposal
before it will be accepted by the VPF. The VPF
will also let you know the date and time that your proposal
will be heard and your attendance expected at the ASSP
Finance Board.
- The proposal is heard then voted on in Finance Board.
Finance Board also reserves the right to alter a proposal
before it is voted on. Regardless if the proposal receives
alteration, a "Do Pass" or a "Do Not Pass",
it is then moved to the following ASSP Senate's agenda.
- The ASSP Senate holds the final authority on financial
proposals, and also holds the right to modify a proposal
before it is voted on. Senate will either pass or reject
the proposal.
- If Senate has approved the conference funding, submit
to the ASSP Finance Office bills or statements clearly
showing the amount you have paid to attend the conference,
including any travel expenses. You will be issued a check
after the date the conference has ended
from the SPU Finance Office.
Questions regarding the process should be directed to the
ASSP VP of Finance.
