Godoy Goals Lift No. 8 Falcons Over Western Women, 2-1
September 15, 2007

SEATTLE, Wa. (Sept. 15)—Janae Godoy scored twice in the first half including the game winner to lift No. 8 Seattle Pacific University over Western Washington 2-1, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer game Saturday afternoon at Interbay Stadium.

The victory kept Seattle Pacific undefeated at 8-0-0/2-0-0. Western dropped to 5-2-0/1-2-0.

Western and SPU traded quick goals in the 12th minute as the game reached a torrid pace. The Vikings’ Ashley McDougall struck first blood, connecting on a 20 yard shot to the upper left corner after a Falcon defender slipped near the top of the penalty box.

McDougall’s strike was well placed and SPU keeper Jesslyn Rahm (Eugene, Or./South Eugene) could not get a hand on the ball.

Just 16 seconds later, Seattle Pacific’s Sarah Martinez (Sr., Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) and Jessica Gerstmann (Sr., Puyallup, Wa./Cascade Christian) teamed up to thread a ball across Western’s goalmouth. Godoy (Jr., Yakima, Wa./West Valley) finished from 12 yards.

Godoy garnered the game winner at 34:01 when she poked a Meredith Teague (Jr., Redmond, Wa./Bellevue Christian) corner-kick across the goal line in heavy traffic. Western Keeper Teresa Fish had a hand on the ball, but could not keep it from breaching the line.

Fish was busy over the course of the game. She tallied a half-dozen saves. Rahm finished with three. Seattle Pacific shot 13 times to the Vikings’ eight and earned seven corner kicks to Western’s three.

Fouls held at 18-15 on the side of the Falcons. Four cautions were whistled.
