Falcons Pull Off Volleyball Upset Over Crusaders in Five
September 15, 2007

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Sept. 15) – Back to back service aces by Alyssa Given to close out the fifth game solidified the win for Seattle Pacific as they took down Great Northwest Athletic Conference Co-Leaders Northwest Nazarene 28-30, 30-23, 30-23, 26-30, 15-9 at Brougham Pavilion.

Given (Sr., Salinas, Ca.) got four of her match leading 19 kills in the decisive fifth game for the Falcons (2-1, 7-4) versus the Crusaders (2-1, 8-3).

Given also led the way for SPU in service aces, smashing down seven over the match. As a team, the Falcons out aced the Crusaders 16-9, which is two aces shy of the team record 18, set in 1993 versus Montana State Billings.

Angie Wodrich (Sr., Richland, Wa.) hit 16 kills in the match and had a team leading 21 digs. Teammate Alexa Vondrak (So., Gresham, Or.) also passed the double digit mark with 10 kills, while hitting at a .308 clip.

Cammy Dranginis led the charge for the Crusaders with 16 kills on a match leading .464 clip.

As a team, NNU out hit SPU .142 to .128, but the fifth match proved to be the Crusaders’ Achilles heel, when SPU out hit them .211 to -.077.

The Falcons take to the road this week to face GNAC foes Western Oregon University and Saint Martin’s University on Thursday at 7 p.m. and at 7 p.m. on Saturday. With NNU’s loss tonight, the WOU Wolves are now in sole possession of the GNAC lead.
