Abel Scores As Falcon Men Stay Unbeaten With Road Draw at Grand Canyon

PHOENIX (Sept. 14) ­ Justin Abel scored with less than six minutes remaining in regulation as 4th-ranked Seattle Pacific University remained undefeated with a 1-1 tie with Grand Canyon in a men's soccer game Friday night.

Abel (Sr., Snohomish, Wa.) scored the Falcons' (4-0-3) lone goal from 20 yards 5 minutes, 49 seconds into the match.

Playing in temperatures in excess of 100 degrees, the two teams went the remainder of the regulation and overtime without a goal. They finished with 16 shots apiece.

Daniel Sabillion had opened the scoring for the Antelopes (1-3-2) with 98 seconds left in the first half.

Abel's goal, his first of the season, finished sequence which began with a corner kick by Alec Nelson (So., Lynnwood, Wa./Meadowdale) to Drew Macha (Sr., Eugene, Or.).

Seattle Pacific's Kellen Rosten (Sr., Colorado Springs, Co.) saved seven shots by Canyon, which got six stops from Vincent Licciadri).

The Falcons have drawn their last two games. Its their longest unbeaten run to start a season since 1987.

SPU returns home for its next three games, beginning Thursday night with a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game with Montana State Billings.
