SEATTLE (Sept. 15) – In a performance superior to her winning of the open division a year ago, Seattle Pacific University’s Jessica Pixler ran fourth in the women’s featured section Saturday at the Sundodger Invitational cross country meet Saturday in Lincoln Park.

The 5th-ranked Falcons finished seventh among a field otherwise comprised of Division I programs. The SPU men were 14th in the open division.

Pixler (So., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake) was clocked 31 seconds faster than her time as a freshman on the same course. She battled for second place for much of the 6000 meters before being overtaken by two Washington harriers.

The Huskies’ Anita Campbell led comfortably from start to finish, crossing the line in 20 minutes, 20 seconds. Pixler’s time was 21:04.

Washington(27) easily claimed the team title, followed by Idaho (76) and San Francisco (104). Seattle Pacific totaled 143, finishing ahead of Washington State (180).

For the second week in a row, Suzie Strickler (Jr., Richland, Wa.) was the women’s No. 2 scorer, taking 31st (22:24). Kate Harline (So., Orem, Ut.) was next (39th/23:33), followed by Karin Rohde (Sr., Bellingham, Wa./Mt. Baker) in 42nd (22:49) and Lisa Anderberg (So., Edmonds, Wa./Kamiak) in 49th (23:04).

Brian Cronrath, an SPU senior redshirt competing unattached, ran eighth. John Riak of Saint Martin’s was the winner in 24:35.

The Falcons’ Chad Meis (So., Renton, Wa./Seattle Christian) improved 85 places over last year, to 17th.

Spokane Community College (64) won the men’s open team title, ahead of Idaho’s Lewis-Clark State (80) and Alaska Anchorage (86).

Rounding out the SPU men’s scorers were Jeff Dull (Fr., Shoreline, Wa./King’s), Evan Dull (Fr., Shoreline, Wa./King’s), Scott Seamster (Sr., Seattle, Wa./Blanchet) and Jordan Lance (Fr., Bothell, Wa./Jackson).

Members of both teams will be split between Boise’s Bob Firman Races and the Bellvue Invitational next Saturday.
