CHICO, Ca. (Sept. 4)Janae Godoy scored
off a crossbar rebound in the middle of the second half to lift
10th-ranked Seattle Pacific University over No. 19 Chico State
1-0, in a non-conference womens soccer match Tuesday night
in Chico.
The victory pushed the Falcons to a perfect 4-0
on the season. Chico State dropped to 3-1.
Godoy (So., Yakima, Wa./West Valley) was the
beneficiary of a Shannon Oakes (Jr., Boise, Id.) shot that caromed
off the Wildcat crossbar in the 60th minute.
Sarah Martinez (Sr., Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park
Christian) began the play near midfield when she drew two Wildcat
defenders and laid the ball off to Oakes.
Oakes progressed toward the attacking third and
ripped a 30-yard blank off the top of the Chico crossbar. Godoy
wisely followed Oakes attempt and scored easily from the
penalty box.
Seattle Pacific held a 15-7 advantage in shots
over the course of the match with Godoy taking two. Chico State
keeper Kari Gonzales registered five saves.
The Falcons return to Seattle to kick-off a
three game home stand beginning Saturday, with a matinee against
Notre Dame de Namur. Start time is 1PM. Seattle Pacific begins
Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Sept. 12th.
