Teague Scores 7 Points in 7-1 Women’s Soccer Win Over Cal State Stanislaus
September 1, 2007

SEATTLE, Wa. (Sept. 1)—Meredith Teague scored twice and assisted on three plays for seven points as No. 10 Seattle Pacific University (4-0-0) beat Cal State Stanislaus 7-1 in a non-conference women’s soccer game Saturday afternoon at Interbay Stadium.

The victory pushed Seattle Pacific to a perfect 4-0-0, while the Warriors dropped to 2-2-0.

Both teams scored on their first shots of the game. Sarah Martinez (Sr., Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) one-touched an eight yard attempt to near post with Teague’s (Jr., Redmond, Wa./Bellevue Christian) assistance from the left side, just 2:41 in. Kayla Stiegemeier (So., Rathdrum, Id./Lakeland) was also credited on the play.

Martinez struck again three minutes later when Teague and Shannon Oakes (Jr., boise, Id./Boise) teamed up to launch a short cross across the goalmouth from the right (5:47).

At 17:57, Adrienne Sorensen pulled Stanislaus back a goal with a 12 yard blast into the far corner. Falcon keeper Jesslyn Rahm (So., Eugene, Or./South Eugene) lunged to her right but could not get a hand on the ball.

Rahm was not tested outside of Sorensen’s shot. She yielded to Maddie Dickinson (Vancouver, Wa./Skyview) in the 72nd minute. Stanislaus’ Jessica Sitarz registered seven saves among 23 SPU shots. The Warriors shot just once.

After the half with the Falcons up 3-1, Oakes took a layback from Martinez and slotted it to the post from 14 yards (47:17).

Teague figured into the final three scores. She scored her first goal of the match in the 49th-minute off Jeanne Webster’s (Sr., Bothell, Wa.) free-kick. At 68:57, she corner-kicked to Becca Woods (Fr., Beaverton, Or.) and less than three minutes later, finalized match scoring with an unassisted run down the center of the attacking third (71:27).

Woods’ strike represented her first collegiate goal. Amanda Johnson (Fr., Duvall, Wa./Cedarcrest) scored her career first at 36:25 and assisted on Oakes strike to start the second half. Martinez’ goals represented her sixth and seventh of the season.

Fouls were nearly even with Stanislaus collecting 16 and Seattle Pacific 15. Corner-kicks held at a 7-0 Falcon advantage.

Seattle Pacific takes a trip to Chico State Tuesday (Sept. 4) before returning to Interbay to commence a three game home stand with Notre Dame de Namur beginning Sept. 8.
