Complete Box Scores »» vs. SVSU   vs. CSUMB

SEASIDE, Calif. (Aug. 31) Behind the career-high eight service aces and 10 kills of Alyssa Given, Seattle Pacific University swept host Cal State Monterey Bay, earning a split of its opening-day volleyball matches at the Otter Invitational.

The Falcons (4-2) had their three-match win streak snapped by Michigan's Saginaw Valley State (30-24, 30-25, 32-30), but rebounded to take the nightcap (30-17, 30-26, 30-23).

Playing near her hometown, Given (Sr., Salinas, Ca.) served 10 consecutive points, including four aces, as SPU pulled away from the Otters in game one. She had four kills in the second game and three aces in the final frame.

Courtney Alberi (Fr., Castaic, Ca.) had eight kills and two blocks.

In the day's opening match, Given cracked a match-high 16 kills but the Falcons were limited to 1.5 blocks. They had averaged over nine in their previous three outings. Angie Wodrich (Sr., Richland, Wa.) added 10 kills.

The Cardinals (4-2) got 13 kills and three blocks from Allison Schlinkert.

Seattle Pacific actually attacked at a higher percentage in the loss (.233) than its win (1.60).

In the final matches prior to Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, the Falcons face No. 1-ranked Tampa and Notre Dame de Namur Saturday.
