SEATTLE, Wa. (Aug. 23) -- Sarah Martinez scored
twice, including the first of two Falcon goals in the opening 12
minutes, as 12th-ranked Seattle Pacific University blanked Hawaii
Hilo 4-0 in a women's non-conference soccer game Thursday night at
Interbay Stadium.
Janae Godoy (So., Yakima, Wa./West Valley) and
Meredith Teague (Jr., Bothell, Wa./Bellevue Christian) also scored
for the Falcons, who out-shot the Vulans 24-1.
Less than three minutes after the opening
kickoff, Martinez (Sr., Bothell, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) took a
Kayla Stiegemeier (So., Rathdrum, Id./Lakeland) pass in traffic,
and scored from 16 yards, low to the near post. Her other goal
completed the game's scoring in the 59th minute.
Godoy put SPU ahead 2-0 at 11:06, volleying a
cross from Jessica Gerstmann (Sr., Puyallup, Wa./)Cascade
Christian), who had two assists.
Teague's goal, just 1:49 into the second half,
was a 20-yard drive from a sharp angle on the right wing.
Jesslyn Rahm (So., Eugene, Or./South Eugene)
and Maddie Dickinson (Fr., Vancouver, Wa./Skyview) split the
shutout for Seattle Pacific.
Hawaii Hilo's Rebecca Delaney made nine saves
before yielding to Randi Walters in the 64th minute.
Seattle Pacific (1-0) hosts Humboldt State on
Monday morning (Aug. 27). Kick-off is scheduled for 9:30AM.
