SEATTLE (June 27) Seattle Pacific
University track and field champion Teona Perkins has been voted
to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first team.
Perkins (Sr., Kennewick, Wa.), who received an
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship earlier this week, becomes only the
Falcons' third track athlete to win a national title and make
Academic All-American in the same season.
A European Studies major, Perkins has a
cumulative grade point average of 3.70. She won the high jump at
the NCAA Division II Championships last month, and had finished
fourth nationally indoors.
Perkins is the women's track program's 10th
Academic All-American. Only Bente Moe (1990) and Karin Grelsson
(1993-94) have claimed NCAA titles and been Academic All-Americans
in the same year.
