SEATTLE (June 26) Teona Perkins of
Seattle Pacific University's track and field team has been awarded
an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for spring sports participants.
Perkins (Sr., Kennewick, Wa), winner of the
Division II championship in the outdoor high jump and a two-time
All-American, becomes the Falcons' 22nd NCAA honoree and eighth in
three years. Earlier this year gymnast Sarah Sullivan received the
award.
Perkins is the sixth SPU female track and field
athlete to receive an NCAA postgraduate award.
A European Studies major with a 3.70 GPA,
Perkins won national and Great Northwest Athletic Conference
titles in May. Last winter she took fourth in the NCAA indoor high
jump and graduates with the GNAC outdoor record.
The NCAA has awarded 58 postgraduate
scholarships of $7,500 each to 29 male student-athletes and 29
female student-athletes who participated in spring sports.
Including fall and winter sports, a total of 174 postgraduate
scholarships were awarded.
