INDIANAPOLIS (June 23) Finishing second in the 1500 meters, Seattle Pacific University's Jessica Pixler qualified for her first international meet Saturday at the USA Junior Track & Field Championships.

Pixler (Fr., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake) earned an automatic berth on the U.S. team for the Pan American Junior Games, July 6-8 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Meanwhile, former Falcon decathlete Chris Randolph made the American team for a multi-event dual meet with Germany in August.

Sitting fourth going into the final lap, Pixler watched as high school sophomore Jordan Hasay made a strong move to go in front of Baylor's Nichole Jones. Hasay broke Jones with a surge on the backstretch and won in a meet-record time of 4 minutes, 16.98 seconds.

Pixler, the NCAA Division II champion, also kicked and passed Jones in the home stretch, comfortably taking second in a personal record of 4:20.93. Jones was third in 4:23.35.

"I was trying to hold on with the leaders as long as I could," said Pixler, "and then during my kick I could see (Jones), and I knew I was going to get her."

"It's very exciting, to know I'm going to Brazil," she added.

Randolph (Lone Tree, Co.), an SPU assistant coach now representing Club Northwest, clinched his spot on the national team for a second year in a row by winning the decathlon's final the event, the 1500. He finished sixth overall in the USA Championships with 7723 points.

Ninth after the first day, Randolph moved up one spot after each of the final three events, punctuated by running a 5-second PR (4:20.88) in the 1500. His other second-day marks were 15.05 in the 110 hurdles, 139-9 in the discus, a pole vault of 15-5 and a javelin throw of 181-3.
