SEATTLE (May 12) Eddie Strickler of Seattle Pacific University virtually clinched a place at the NCAA Championships and the Falcons' Jessica Pixler won for the fourth time in two weeks Saturday at the Ken Foreman Invitational track and field meet at West Seattle Stadium.

Running the fourth-best 800 meters in SPU history, Pixler (Fr., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake) began her day with an easy victory in 2 minutes, 8.13 secondsthe top mark in Division II this spring. She already owns the best qualifying time in the 1500.

It was a personal record by more than 2 seconds and the fastest by a Falcon in 20 years. Pixler finished the regular season with 13 wins in 15 races between 800-3200 meters. She came back to finish third in the 3000 when her priority was pacing teammates.

Strickler (Sr., Richland, Wa.) improved his qualifying time by nine-tenths of a second in his 800, going back and forth with Club Northwest's Roosevelt Jackson before taking second in 1:50.83. Jackson won in 1:50.50.

Seattle Pacific's Jane Larson (Fr., Fall City, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) also improved her qualifying chances by running a personal record of 10:02.01 in the 3000, where she took fourth.

It was the final opportunity to qualify for the national meet. The final NCAA competitor list will be announced Tuesday.

Two women were multiple winners. Christabel Nettey of Canada's Kajaks bolted to first in both the open 100 (11.98) and 100 hurdles (14.58). Simon Fraser's Ruky Abdulai claimed the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and long jump (19-9½).

The double victors for the men were Curtis Parrish of Spokane Community College and Central Washington's Cameron Neel. Parrish won the 400 hurdles (53.92) and high jump (6-8) while Neel threw for wins in the shot (51-4 1/4) and discus (165-5).

Altogether, the host Falcons won five events. In the first steeplechase held at the facility in 47 years, Karin Rohde (Jr., Bellingham, Wa./Mt. Baker) led from the outset and won for the second week in a row in 11:04.90.

Steeplechase barriers and pits were added as part of a $2 million renovation to West Seattle Stadium since last season.

A kick by Brian Cronrath (Jr., Battle Ground, Wa.) enabled him to overtake GNAC winner Anthony Tomsich of Western Washington going into the final 100 meters and win the 1500. His time was 3:52.86.

Monica Anderson (Jr., Bremerton, Wa./Bremerton) and Tracie Lundsten (Fr., Banks, Or.) finished 1-2 in the pole vault. Anderson cleared 11 feet, 11¾ inches and Lundsten made 11-5¾.

The final victory came from Jessica Hinton (Fr. Lake Stevens, Wa.) in the 200, a personal best of 25.59.

With a season-best time, Jennifer Marsh (Sr., Kirkland, Wa./Juanita) was runner-up in the 800 (2:15.20). Teona Perkins (Sr., Kennewick, Wa.) was second in the high jump (5-6) and Molly Barnes (Sr., Burien, Wa./Highline) threw for third place in the javelin (137-1).

Chris Randolph, the Falcons' two-time NCAA decathlon champion and now assistant coach, won the pole vault at 15-5.
