SEATTLE (Apr. 27) Vancouver's Joelle
Perez and three Californians have signed national letters of
intent to play volleyball for Seattle Pacific University next
fall.
In addition to Perez, coach Chris Johnson
received commitments from Sarah Risser of Santa Barbara, Courtney
Alberi of Castaic and Nikki Osuna of Bellflower.
Perez is a two-time all-Greater St. Helen's
League setter and received honorable mention all-state 4A at
Heritage High School. With Perez out ill, the Timberwolves were
eliminated in the first round of state tournament. She also plays
for Cowlitz VC.
Risser, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter, plays for
Dos Pueblos High School and Santa Barbara Volleyball Club. Dos
Pueblos won the Channel League in 2005 and Risser was a first team
all-league selection as a senior. She is a former prep teammate of
Robin DeJong, who will be a sophomore at Seattle Pacific.
Alberi, a 5-11 outside, starred for Valencia
High School. She was voted the Foothill League player of the year
last fall and was captain of both the Vikings and her club,
Synergy, which went 18-1.
Osuna, a 5-5 libero, plays for Los Alamitos
High and TCA Volleyball Club. The Lady Griffins were 23-4 and
Sunset League champions last fall. Osuna was second team
all-league as a senior.
In its first two seasons under Johnson, Seattle
Pacific has gone 46-9, won tow Great Northwest Athletic Conference
titles and twice finished No. 18 in the final coaches poll for
NCAA Division II.
