SEATTLE (Apr. 16) Seattle Pacific
University sprinter NyEma Sims was chosen as the track and field
athlete of the week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference
following her record-breaking performances at the Mount SAC
Relays.
Sims (Fr., Portland, Or./Jefferson) broke the
20-year-old school record in the 200 meters and achieved the No. 2
all-time mark in the 100. Both marks bettered her GNAC records set
earlier this season.
She won her 200 heat in 23.99 seconds and took
eighth overall in the university division. It broke the SPU
standard of 24.31, set by Anita Sartin in 1987. Sims was fourth
(second in her heat) in the 100 in a time of 11.90 seconds, a time
which ranks second in SPU history to Shavonne Colebrooke's 11.79
in 1996.
Sims will run again Saturday at the Oregon
Invitational in Eugene.
