SEATTLE (Apr. 2) Seattle Pacific
University's Debra Huss and Sarah Sullivan have each qualified as
gymnastics all-arounders for the NCAA West Regional, Apr. 14 in
Berkeley, Calif.
This marks the first time since 2003 that
multiple Falcons have qualified for at-large berths. Five
all-arounders from non-qualifying teams are chosen to participate,
based on their regional qualifying scores.
Huss (Sr., Orangevale, Ca./Bella Vista), who
also qualified in 2005, won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation
floor and all-around championships last week.
Sullivan (Sr., Salem, Or./Sprague) won the MPSF
title on balance beam and took second in all-around.
Huss will rotate along with Missouri and
Sullivan with Sacramento State at the regional meet. Other teams
bound for the West Regional are Utah, Nebraska, Washington and
host California.
The top two teams and the top two all-around
competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional
will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in
Salt Lake City, Apr. 26-28. In addition, the event winners at the
regional championships will advance to the national championships
(in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or
the all-around qualifiers.
