VANCOUVER, Wash. (Mar. 31) ­ For the first time in the rowing season, Seattle Pacific University left a regatta empty-handed Saturday.

The best the Falcon varsity boats could manage at the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference Invitational was a couple of bronzes.

The women's varsity four finished third behind two powerful Gonzaga crews while the men's varsity, in a close boat race, was third to Puget Sound and Gonzaga. Both crew had won their first two races this season.

Seattle Pacific also took its first loss in the women's varsity eight. Defending national champion Western Washington beat UC San Diego by a length, and Humboldt State avenged a loss to SPU a week ago.

The Falcons were fourth in the women's second varsity eight, beating crews from both Western and UCSD.
