Pixler Among Three Falcons to Qualify for Finals at NCAA Track and Field Championships

BOSTON (Mar. 9) ­Seattle Pacific University's Jessica Pixler ran the top qualifying time in the mile as the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships got underway Friday night at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Pixler (Fr., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake) won her heat handily in 4 minutes, 51.79 seconds­more than 2 seconds ahead of her nearest challenger.

Karin Rohde (Jr., Bellingham, Wa./Mt. Baker) also moved into Saturday's final with the No. 5 overall time, a 6-second PR of 4:55.46. Jane Larson (Fr., Fall City, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) did not qualify with a 5:02.28.

The women's medley relay of Rohde, Jessica Hinton (Fr., Lake Stevens, Wa.), Jenn Marsh (Sr., Kirkland, Wa./Juanita) and Larson finished eighth (12:04.77) to earn the Falcons' first point. It was 18 seconds off their No. 2 qualifying mark. Grand Valley State won in a meet-record 11:29.89.

Eddie Strickler (Sr., Richland, Wa.) made it into the men's 800 final, finishing fourth in his heat and seventh overall in 1:53.05.

In the 60 dash, Nyema Sims (Fr., Portland, Or./Jefferson) finished 15th overall in the prelims and did not advance. Her time was 7.74 seconds -- 0.12 from the cutoff.

In addition to Strickler, Pixler and Rohde, high-jumper Teona Perkins (Sr., Kennewick, Wa.) will compete Saturday.
