SEATTLE (Mar. 5) Seattle Pacific
University swept all three available honors as the U.S. Track and
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named its
West Regional award winners for the 2007 Division II indoor track
and field season.
High-jumper Teona Perkins (Sr., Kennewick, Wa.)
was voted the women's field athlete of the year while miler
Jessica Pixler (Fr., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake) claimed the top
runner of the year.
Perkins was an automatic qualifier in the high
jump with a best clearance of 5 feet, 8 3/4 inches. Pixler won
Great Northwest Athletic Conference titles in the mile and 800
meters, and she had the nation's top qualifying mark (4:48.20) in
the mile.
Karl Lerum, who guided the Falcon women to an
overwhelming victory at the GNAC, was selected the region's coach
of the year. SPU is sending seven female and one male to the NCAA
Championships. Division II national winners will be selected this
week and will be posted at www.ustfccca.org.
