Falcons Nab Top Regional Honors for Indoor Track
March 5, 2007

SEATTLE (Mar. 5) Seattle Pacific University swept all three available honors as the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named its West Regional award winners for the 2007 Division II indoor track and field season.

High-jumper Teona Perkins (Sr., Kennewick, Wa.) was voted the women's field athlete of the year while miler Jessica Pixler (Fr., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake) claimed the top runner of the year.

Perkins was an automatic qualifier in the high jump with a best clearance of 5 feet, 8 3/4 inches. Pixler won Great Northwest Athletic Conference titles in the mile and 800 meters, and she had the nation's top qualifying mark (4:48.20) in the mile.

Karl Lerum, who guided the Falcon women to an overwhelming victory at the GNAC, was selected the region's coach of the year. SPU is sending seven female and one male to the NCAA Championships. Division II national winners will be selected this week and will be posted at www.ustfccca.org.
