Bremerman, Hironaka Share Top GNAC Men's Hoop Honors
March 5, 2007

SEATTLE (Mar. 5) Dustin Bremerman, the top scorer for Seattle Pacific University, has been voted the men's basketball co-player of the year in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The Falcons' Jeff Hironaka shared the GNAC coach of the year and Rob Will (Sr., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O'Dea) was voted to the all-conference second team by a vote of the coaches.

Bremerman (Sr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) was the only repeat first team selection, and shared player of the year honors with Central Washington's Lance den Boer, the GNAC's top scorer.

Forward Drew Matzen (Sr., 6-4, Bothell, Wa./Lynnwood) received honorable mention.

Bremerman averaged 18.8 points during the regular season. He converted 89 percent of his free throws, 50 percent of his field goals and 39 percent on three-pointers. Bremerman is the Falcons' sixth conference player of the year. Tony Binetti claimed the award last season.

Hironaka, a near-unanimous choice as coach of the year in 2005, guided his team to a second straight GNAC championship despite being picked to finish third in the preseason poll and losing his starting point guard in the opening game of the season. Seattle Pacific earned the No. 4 seed in this week's NCAA Division II West Regional.

Joining Hironaka as co-coach of the year is Frank Ostanik of Alaska Fairbanks.

Will averaged 13.4 points, 2.1 blocked shots and 6.3 rebounds. He led the GNAC in blocks for the second year in a row and is third in field-goal percentage (.576). Matzen is the team's No. 4 scorer (8.8) and second in assists (2.6).

The rest of the GNAC first team was comprised of Alaska Anchorage guard Luke Cooper, Saint Martin's guard Jake Linton and Alaska Fairbanks forward Jushay Rockett, who was named newcomer of the year. Bremerman and den Boer were unanimous selections.

Named to the second team guards Ryan Webb and Sam Kirby Seattle University; forward Jacob Mitchell of Western Oregon and forward Lukas Henne of Western Washington, Alaska Anchorage forward Carl Arts and guard Kenny Barker of Alaska Fairbanks. Justin Parnell of Northwest Nazarene was voted freshman of the year.

Seattle Pacific (18-9) faces Arizona's Grand Canyon (20-7) in the first round of the West Regional Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Arcata, Calif.
