TACOMA, Wash. (Mar. 3) Brittany Bekins
of Seattle Pacific University opened the outdoor track and field
season with a national-qualifying throw of the javelin at the
Falcons triangular meet Saturday at Baker Stadium.
Bekins (So., Everett, Wa./Cascade) broke the
meet record by sending the spear 150 feet, 4 inches to easily
surpass the NCAA Division II provisional standard. She also won
the 800 meters (2:20.76) and the high jump (5-1).
The Falcons' Ben Climer (Fr., Woodburn,
Or./McNary) finished first in tow events, the 400 dash (51.46) and
the 100 hurdles (16.75). He also ran a leg o f the winning 1600
relay.
Brian Cronrath (Jr., Battle Ground, Wa.) of SPU
set a meet record in the 1500 (3:52.12.).
Many of Seattle Pacific's frontline performers
were rested, including all eight of those bound for the NCAA
Indoor Championships, beginning Friday in Boston.
The SPU men split their dials, edging Lewis &
Clark (71-68) and falling to host Puget Sound (121-47). The women
were outscored 82-42 by the Pioneers and 88-48 by the Loggers.
Next Saturday the Falcons will be back at UPS
for the Joe Peyton Invitational.
