SEATTLE (Feb. 28) Going into its final
regular season game, Seattle Pacific University remained No. 4 in
this week's NCAA Division II West Region rankings for men's
basketball.
The Falcons (17-9) held firm for the third week
in a row and trail Humboldt State, Cal State San Bernardino and
Cal Poly Pomona. SPU visits Western Washington Thursday night,
needing a win to clinch at least a share of the Great Northwest
Athletic Conference title.
There was only one change in this week's poll,
with BYU Hawaii and Alaska Anchorage switching places. The
Seasiders moved up to seventh, while UAA fell to eighth.
Following this weekend's contests, the NCAA
selection committee will choose the six at-large teams which will
join the CCAA and GNAC regular-season champions in the NCAA
playoffs which begin Friday, Mar. 9. The top seed has the
opportunity to host.
Currently, three GNAC - SPU, No. 6
Seattle and No. 9 Central Washington - still have an
opportunity to earn the league's automatic berth.
The final field of eight teams will be unveiled
Sunday night during a broadband broadcast at
NCAASports.com. The
show will start at 7:30 p.m. with the announcement of the men's
pairings. The women's pairings will follow after a brief
intermission.
