Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Feb. 22) Kenny Barker scored seven of his 24 points in the final six minutes as Alaska Fairbanks earned a 75-70 win over 25th-ranked Seattle Pacific University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at Brougham Pavilion Thursday night.

With the loss, only its second at home this season, the Falcons (9-5, 16-9) dropped into a first-place tie with Alaska Anchorage, which won at Central Washington. SPU, which has lost consecutive home games for the first time in three years, will host the Seawolves Saturday at 7.

Dustin Bremerman (Sr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) paced the Falcons with 23 points and Rob Will (Jr., 6-10, Seattl,e Wa./Odea) added 15 plus eight rebounds and five blocked shots.

It marked the first time in 30 games that SPU has shot 50 percent from the field and lost. It finished at 53 percent (26-49).

Keeping its postseason hopes alive, Alaska (8-5, 17-10) overcame 42-percent shooting (23-55) by controlling the boards, 39-21, and sinking 20 of 25 free throws. Steve Sandles grabbed 14 rebounds and Jushay Rockett had nine.

Barker scored 15 of his points in the second half, helping Fairbanks hold firm and only allow Seattle Pacific to pull ahead by one on two occasions. Barker gave the visitors the lead for good on a three-pointer for a 54-52 edge. Later, another of his four treys put UAF on top 59-54 with six minutes to go.

With a 70-67 lead, Barker missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 35 seconds left but Rockett got the rebound and Barker was the fouled. He sank four free throws in the final 25 seconds.

Mike Titus scored 16 for UAF, Sandles 13 and Rockett 12.

The Nanooks, who had beaten SPU seven weeks ago in Fairbanks, out-hustled the Falcons throughout the first half and led 33-25. Bremerman kept Seattle Pacific in contention with 12 first-half points but his team was out-rebounded 19-13.
