SEATTLE (Feb. 14) Seattle Pacific
University rose to No. 4 in this week's NCAA Division II West
Region rankings for men's basketball.
The Falcons (15-8), who had been No. 5 entering
last week, split a pair of games. They play only once this week,
Saturday at Saint Martin's.
There is a new No. 1 team in the West. Humboldt
State supplanted Cal State San Bernardino. Cal Poly Pomona is
third. The top seed will have the right to host the regional
tournament in March.
Four Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams
are among those receiving consideration. Alaska Anchorage and
Alaska Fairbanks, both due to visit SPU next week, are fifth and
eighth, respectively.
The weekly poll will eventually help determine
which six at-large teams join the GNAC and CCAA regular-season
champions, in the eight-team regional.
