February 10, 2007

Complete Box Score

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Feb. 10) Seattle Pacific University's lead in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball standings was cut in half by a 80-70 loss at Central Washington Saturday night.

Laura Wright and Brandi Bounds each scored 19 points for the Wildcats (4-6, 14-7), who took the lead shortly before halftime and then scored the game's final six points from the foul line in the last 54 seconds.

Autumn Fielding (Sr., 5-9, Kennewick, Wa.) led four Falcons (8-2, 15-6) in double figures with 14 points, including a pair of free throws which pulled SPU within 74-70. But the visitors missed their final four shots from the field and both Elyse Mengarelli and Hanna Hull sank three free throws for the 'Cats.

Central snapped a four-game losing streak while Seattle Pacific lost for just the second time in 11 games. Western Washington pulled within one game of first in the GNAC by beating Alaska Fairbanks.

SPU started strong, twice going up by seven on early treys by Jackie Hollands (Jr., 5-9, Oregon City, Or.).

The Wildcats hit three three-pointers and Wright scored a pair of jumpers during a 13-2 spree just before the half for a 31-26 lead.

The lead grew to eight in the second period before the Falcons responded, climbing with one two times on scores underneath by Kelsey Hill (So., 6-2, Portland, Or.).

Central Washington converted 25 of 29 free throws and finished with a 41-26 advantage on the boards. Wright hauled down 12 rebounds and Bounds hit a total of five treys.

Hill contributed 12 points and nine caroms for SPU, which goes on the road to Alaska next week.
