Sims, Larson Star for Falcons at Husky Classic

SEATTLE (Feb. 10) ­Seattle Pacific University's Nyema Sims posted season-best conference marks in two events at the Husky Classic track and field meet Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor

Jane Larson (Fr., Fall City, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) improved her NCAA Division II qualifying time in the indoor mile with the SPU No. 2 all-time mark. Larson clipped 1.3 seconds off her previous best, finishing in 4:59.87. It's also the No. 3 time in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference this season.

Sims (Fr., Portland, Or./Jefferson) hit the league's best long jump at 17 feet, 8 3/4 inches to win her flight. She later ran the top GNAC time in the 200 meters (25.39) and had the Falcons' top placement overall, taking seventh in the 60 (7.71).

Anna Walters (Fr., Spokane, Wa./North Central) of SPU ran the fastest 400 in the GNAC in 59.17, and Latasha Essien's (Fr., Portland, Or./Reynolds) 200 ranks No. 2 in 26.15.

The men's distance medley relay won its heat in 10:20.15.

The Falcons will have several athletes in action at the UW Open Sunday. The GNAC Championships are Feb. 19 in Nampa, Idaho.
