Central Snaps SPU Men's Home Win String, 80-73
February 8, 2007

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Feb. 8) Monti Colton hit two key three-pointers in the final six minutes as Central Washington snapped Seattle Pacific University's 13-game home win streak, 80-73, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion

It was the fourth straight win for the Wildcats (6-4, 11-10), who had been the last visiting team to beat the 22nd-ranked Falcons (7-4, 14-8) at home.

Central got 18 points from Lance Den Boer and Bryan Freshwater scored 11 of his 17 points in the second half.

Seattle Pacific, which had shot 53 percent at home this season, managed only 44 percent and top scorers Dustin Bremerman (Sr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) and Rob Will (Jr., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O'Dea) were unable to catch fire.

Colton capped a run of eight unanswered points with a trey for a 68-61 Wildcat lead with 5:50 remaining.

After back-to-back treys by Marques Echols (Jr., 6-2, Seattle, Wa./Garfield) and JoJay Jackson (Jr., 6-5, Fairfield, Ca.) brought SPU within 71-69, Colton connected from the top of the key with 1:45 to go.

Den Boer then sank four free throws in the final 23 seconds to add insurance.

The Falcons, who had been the lone remaining GNAC team unbeaten at home, also fell from first in the standings as Saint Martin's defeated Western Washington.

Echols came off the bench to pace SPU with 15 points. Bremerman had 14 to surpass Jeff McBroom and become the school's No. 2 career scorer, but he was only 5 of 13 from the field. Will fouled out after playing just 16 minutes and scoring eightall in the first half.

Both Bremerman and Den Boer began icy shooting, missing a combined 11 of 15 shots in the first period.

Seattle Pacific got an early 6-point jump and led virtually the entire first 28 minutes. Will, playing only nine minutes, pumped in eight points but the Falcons shot just 36 percent while the Wildcats committed nine turnovers.

SPU goes on the road for its next two, beginning Saturday at Western Oregon.
