SEATTLE (Jan. 31) Seattle Pacific
University dropped to No. 5 in this week's NCAA Division II West
Region rankings for men's basketball.
The Falcons (12-7), who had been No. 3 entering
last week, split a pair of games. They will host two games this
week, including No. 4 Seattle University Saturday.
CCAA members Cal State San Bernardino and Cal
Poly Pomona are 1-2 in the West. The top seed will have the right
to host the regional tournament in March.
Four Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams
are among those receiving consideration. In addition to SPU and
Seattle U., Alaska Anchorage is sixth and Alaska Fairbanks eighth.
The weekly poll will eventually help determine
which six at-large teams join the GNAC and CCAA regular-season
champions, in the eight-team regional.
West Region - 1. Cal State San
Bernardino (12-2); 2. Cal Poly Pomona (11-3); 3. Humboldt State
(12-3); 4. Seattle (11-6); 5. Seattle Pacific (10-7); 6. Alaska
Anchorage (10-3); 7. BYU-Hawaii (13-5); 8. Alaska Fairbanks (9-5);
9. Chaminade (7-4); 10. Grand Canyon (10-6).
