SPU Men Drop to 5th in Basketball Regional
January 31, 2007

SEATTLE (Jan. 31) Seattle Pacific University dropped to No. 5 in this week's NCAA Division II West Region rankings for men's basketball.

The Falcons (12-7), who had been No. 3 entering last week, split a pair of games. They will host two games this week, including No. 4 Seattle University Saturday.

CCAA members Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona are 1-2 in the West. The top seed will have the right to host the regional tournament in March.

Four Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams are among those receiving consideration. In addition to SPU and Seattle U., Alaska Anchorage is sixth and Alaska Fairbanks eighth.

The weekly poll will eventually help determine which six at-large teams join the GNAC and CCAA regular-season champions, in the eight-team regional.

West Region - 1. Cal State San Bernardino (12-2); 2. Cal Poly Pomona (11-3); 3. Humboldt State (12-3); 4. Seattle (11-6); 5. Seattle Pacific (10-7); 6. Alaska Anchorage (10-3); 7. BYU-Hawaii (13-5); 8. Alaska Fairbanks (9-5); 9. Chaminade (7-4); 10. Grand Canyon (10-6).
Note: Records listed are versus Division II opponents.
