SEATTLE (Jan. 27) Seven players scored
in double figures, and the Falcons set a school record for three
pointer in a lopsided 106-62 victory over visiting Dixie State in
a non-conference womens basketball game Saturday afternoon
at Brougham Pavilion.
Autumn Fielding (Sr., 5-9, Kennewick, Wa.) led
the scoring barrage with a game-high 17 points, just one shy of
her career best. She also led all players with six assists.
Fielding shot 6-for-8 from the field, including 5-of-6 from
three-point range.
Seattle Pacific (12-5), which won for the sixth
time in the past seven games, shot a whopping 71 percent (17-24)
from behind the arc. The Falcons shattered the previous school
record of three pointers in a game (12), draining 17 from long
range. The shot a season-high 61 percent (37-61) overall in the
game and were a perfect 15-for-15 from the free-throw line.
Fielding scored 12 of her points in the first
half to help the Falcons capture a 48-28 lead at halftime. SPU led
by seven with just under four minutes left in the first half, but
Fielding knocked down back-to-back treys, Jessie Menkens (Sr.,
5-10, Battle Ground, Wa./Prairie) scored a running jumper, and
Beth Christensen (Jr., 5-5, Enumclaw, Wa.) poured in five straight
points to send the Falcons into the locker room with a 20-point
cushion.
The Falcons did not cool off, opening the
second half with a 20-4 run, and then extending their lead to 41
with 13 minutes left to play.
Jackie Hollands (Jr., 5-9, Oregon City, Wa.),
who got into early foul trouble in the first half, scored all 15
of her points in the second half on 5-of-8 shooting, 3-of-5 from
behind the arc. Kelsey Hill (So., 6-2, Portland, Or./Portland
Christian) added 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
Rachel Strand (Sr., 6-0, Shoreline, Wa./Kings)
finished with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists, and
Christensen chipped in 10 points for the SPU starters.
Menkens led all reserves with 13 points in 23
minutes off the bench. She shot 5-for-8 and 3-for-6 from long
range. Daesha Henderson (Fr., 5-8, Snohomish, Wa.) knocked down
4-6 shots, 2-of-3 from three-point range, to finish with 12 points
in 16 minutes off the bench.
Along with the seven in double figures, Libby
Magnuson (Jr., 5-10, White Bear Lake, Mn.) scored eight points for
the Falcons. All 10 players who saw action for SPU scored in the
contest.
Lacey Christensen matched Fielding for
game-high honors with 17 points to lead Dixie State (11-9). Liz
Lewis added 12 points and four steals, and Jessica Carver added 11
points, four rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
The Rebels shot just 39 percent overall and 37
percent (10-27) from three-point range. The Falcons scored 26
points off 19 Dixie turnovers, and had a 29-4 advantage in
fast-break points.
The Falcons return to league play with a Great
Northwest Athletic Conference home game against Northwest Nazarene
Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
