January 20, 2007

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE, Wa. (Jan. 20)—Rachel Strand poured in 18 points and Kelsey Hill recorded a double-double to lift Seattle Pacific University over Alaska Anchorage 68-52 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The victory pushed Seattle Pacific to a 11-4/5-0 GNAC record. The Falcons are undefeated in GNAC play. Anchorage dropped to 14-3/3-3.

Seattle Pacific jumped out to a 20-2 lead right away. Rebecca Kielpinski tipped in Anchorage’s first bucket at 17:51, but the Seawolves could muster no more offense until 12:32 before the half.

Up 21 at intermission (37-16), the Falcons came out of the locker room sluggish and Anchorage was able to scratch its way back into the game. Jayci Stone connected on a pair of treys over a 16-2 run that brought the Seawolves within three with 13:21 remaining (39-36).

A timely three-pointer from SPU’s Daesha Henderson (Fr., 5-8,. Snohomish, Wa.) pulled SPU out of its funk with 12:58 to play, and the Falcons never looked back. Seattle Pacific out-scored Anchorage 20-9 over the final 13 minutes.

Down that stretch Strand (Sr., 6-0, Shoreline, Wa./King’s) and Autumn Fielding (Sr., 5-9, Kennewick, Wa./Idaho) combined for nine points and Jackie Hollands (Jr., 5-9, Oregon City, Or./UW) dropped in two treys with assistance on both from Beth Christianson (Jr., 5-5, Enumclaw, Wa.).

Strand’s 18 points were a game high and Hill finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Stone and Jennifer Salazar paced the Seawolves; they dropped in a dozen points each.

Seattle Pacific has won 63 or its last 65 home conference games, and travels to Western Washington next, for a rare Wednesday night tip-off (7PM). The Falcons return to Brougham to host a three game home stand beginning Jan. 27.
