SEATTLE (Jan. 13) Smashing both school and conference records in the process, Seattle Pacific University's Nyema Sims and Jessica Pixler each qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in their first meet Saturday at the Washington Open.

Sims (Fr., Portland, Or./Jefferson) blazed to a time of 7.63 seconds in her first heat of the 60-meter dash and later took fourth in the finals in 7.71. The old SPU record had been 7.76 and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference mark was 7.87.

Coming off a strong cross country season, Pixler (Fr., Samammish, Wa./Eastlake) crushed the mile records while finishing fourth in 4:47.80. The old school and league standards had been 5:00.37 and 4:49.85, respectively.

Pixler's time automatically qualified for the national meet, and Sims met the provisional standard. The Falcons got three other provisional marks.

High-jumper Teona Perkins (Sr., Kennewick, Wa.) cleared 5 feet, 6 inches. Jane Larson (Fr., Fall City, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) ran the mile in 5:01.17 and the distance medley relay of Perkins, Anna Walters (Fr., Spokane, Wa./North Central), Larson and Pixler was timed in 11:56.66. Both the relay and Larson's time rank No. 3 all-time at Seattle Pacific.

Karin Rohde (Jr., Bellingham, Wa./Mt. Baker) broke a Seattle Pacific record in the 3000. She ran eighth in 10:09.68.

For the Falcon men, Ben Climer (Fr., Woodburn, Or./McNary) ran the No. 3 all-time 60 hurdles in 8.98.

Seattle Pacific's next indoor meet is Jan. 26, also at Washington.
