SEATTLE (Jan. 13) Dustin Bremerman
scored 17 of his 26 points in the second half as Seattle Pacific
University downed Western Washington, 80-65, at Brougham Pavilion
Saturday night to move into second place in the Great Northwest
Athletic Conference .
The Falcons (3-1, 10-5) also got 18 points,
nine rebounds and four blocked shots from Rob Will (Jr., 6-10,
Seattle, Wa./O'Dea) in winning their 10th straight at home.
The teams exchanged the leads throughout the
first 30 minutes but a short jumper by Will gave SPU the lead for
good, 50-49, with 10:11 remaining.
Later, Bremerman (Sr., 6-4, Yakima,
Wa./Eisenhower) figured prominently in a 10-0 run after which
Seattle Pacific was in control, 66-53. He scored eight of the
points, six coming from the foul line.
Bremerman finished 12 for 12 on free throws and
surpassed both Howard Heppner and Jim Ballard, moving into No. 3
on the school's career scoring list.
Western (2-2, 8-6) got 22 points from Lukas
Henne but managed to shoot only 38 percent from the field (23-60).
The 65 points was the second-lowest of the season.
Seattle Pacific converted 26 of 32 free throws
and hit 42 percent (24-57) from the floor.
Will carried much of the load in the opening
period, when he scored 11 points.
The SPU reserves outscored their counterparts
21-8. Marques Echols (Jr., 6-2, Seattle, Wa./Garfield) contributed
eight points and five assists while Rob Diederichs (Fr., 6-8,
Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood) had seven and four, respectively.
SPU visits Northwest Nazarene Thursday night.
