January 11, 2007

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Jan. 11) Rob Will worked inside for 18 points and 15 rebounds and Rob Diederichs came off the bench for 14 points in the final 12 minutes as Seattle Pacific University pulled away for an 86-74 win over Western Oregon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men¹s basketball game Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Trailing at halftime, the Falcons (2-1, 9-5) took the lead for good by reeling off 11 unanswered points early in the second half. Diederichs (Fr., 6-8, Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood) capped that burst with a three-pointer from the right wing for a 58-49 lead.

The Wolves (0-3, 5-9) trimmed the margin to five but SPU responded with seven straight points, with Diederichs scoring two and feeding Dustin Bremerman (Sr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) for a layup and a 71-59 lead.

It was the ninth home win in a row for Seattle Pacific and the fifth in the last six outings overall.

Western Oregon got 19 points apiece from Jacob Mitchell and Ryan Schmidt but shot only 38 percent in the second half and 42 percent (28-66) for the game.

After a slow start, SPU hit 48 percent from the field (29-60) and, behind Will (Jr., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O¹Dea), out-rebounded the visitors 42-30, including 26-11 advantage in the second half.

Will and Brian Lynch (Sr., 6-2, Missoula, Mt.) helped the Falcons keep pace in the first half, combining for 21 points. The Wolves led by as much as seven in the opening period, when Schmidt scored 13.

Will also blocked three shots. He was 7 of 13 from the floor. Diederichs was 6 of 8 and connected on both of his threes.

Bremerman totaled 16 points. Lynch and JoJay Jackson (Jr., 6-5, Fairfield, Ca.) had 11.

SPU hosts Western Washington Saturday night at 7.
