Falcon Women Earn Road Win at Western Oregon, 61-57
January 6, 2007

Complete Box Score

MONMOUTH, Ore. (Jan. 6) Autumn Fielding and Jessie Menkens scored 13 points apiece and each provided vital points in the final eight minutes to lift Seattle Pacific University over Western Oregon, 61-57, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday night.

Fielding (Sr., 5-9, Kennewick, Wa.) gave the Falcons (2-0, 8-4) the lead for good, 53-51, when she converted inside with 7:17 remaining. She and Menkens then sank a pair of free throws, making it 57-51.

The Wolves (0-2, 1-12), bidding for their first GNAC win in nearly two years, eventually came back within two, but both teams traded three-point misses. The SPU miss was offensively rebounded by Libby Magnuson (Jr., 5-10, White Bear Lake, Mn.) and Menkens ensured the outcome with two more foul shots with 11 seconds to go.

Seattle Pacific led virtually the entire game but was unable to shake WOU, which stayed within at least six points the entire way, and briefly held the lead late in the first half.

Kori Seymour of the Wolves led all players with 20 points and Leada Berkey had 17.

Behind Menkens (Sr., 5-10, Battle Ground, Wa./Prairie), the SPU bench accounted for 28 points. Jackie Hollands (Jr., 5-9, Oregon City, Or.) came off the bench for nine.

Fielding hit three treys and Menkens was 6 of 6 from the line.

Kelsey Hill (So., 6-2, Portland, Or./Portland Christian) hauled down 11 rebounds and the visitors held a 41-34 advantage on the boards, grabbing 19 on the offensive end.

Seattle Pacific is off until next Saturday when it hosts Saint Martin's.
