SPU Men Withstand Furious Comeback to Win at Anchorage, 68-65
January 4, 2007

Complete Box Score

ANCHORAGE (Jan. 4) Dustin Bremerman and JoJay Jackson combined for 40 points and four key free throws in the final two minutes as Seattle Pacific University withstood a furious second-half comeback to defeat Alaska Anchorage 68-65 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both teams Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Sports Center.

Bremerman (Sr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) led all players with 22 points, including what proved to be the winning foul shots with 1:25 left. Jackson (Jr., 6-5, Fairfield, Ca.) added 18.

It was the Falcons' (8-4) fourth straight win and it snapped Anchorage's (9-3) four-game win streak. Each of the SPU wins has been by six or fewer points.

The Seawolves, who had not lost to a non-Division I team, came from 19 points down at halftime to have a chance to take the lead in the dying seconds. But Joe Davis of UAA could not convert a drive with 2 seconds remaining.

Jackson grabbed the rebound and hit twice from the line with 1 second to go for the final margin.

McCade Olsen and Carl Arts each had 13 points to pace a balanced UAA offense. Coming into the game shooting 54 percent from the field, the Seawolves shot just 35 percent in the opening period and 42 percent (21-50) for the game.

Seattle Pacific shot 52 percent in the first half, when it took command. Jackson and Rob Will (Jr., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O'Dea) figured heavily in a 17-2 run near the end of the half for a 40-21 advantage. Jackson ignited the spree with a three-pointer and Will scored inside on three consecutive possessions.

That margin largely held until the final nine minute, when Anchorage held SPU without a field goal.

Out-rebounded in each of its last seven games, Seattle Pacific controlled the boards, 35-23. Will had seven rebounds and 11 points.

SPU visits Alaska Fairbanks Saturday night.
