December 30, 2006

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Dec. 30) Rob Will hit two big baskets in the final four minutes and Dustin Bremerman scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half as Seattle Pacific University came from behind to beat Dixie State, 71-67, for the Oak Harbor Freight Lines Classic tournament title Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

After trailing by eight at halftime, a three-pointer by Brian Lynch (Sr., 6-1, Missoula, Mt.) tied the score at 60 with 4:30 remaining. Will (Jr., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O'Dea) then pushed SPU (7-4) in front, 65-62, with a short hook followed by a three-point play.

Bremerman (Sr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) scored on a rebound for a 69-65 edge with 18 seconds left and ensured the outcome with two free throws with 3 seconds remaining.

Dixie State's (9-10) Troy Randall led all players with 23 points. The Rebels out-rebounded SPU 36-26 but committed seven more turnovers.

Following an 0-5 first half, Bremerman made 6 of 7 shots after intermission, including a pair of three-pointers.

It was the first game Seattle Pacific has won when shooting under 50 percent. The Falcons were 16 for 30 from the field in the second half but managed only 42 percent overall (24-57).

Will had 14 points and four blocked shots. Lynch made four steals.

After scoring the game's first eight points, the Falcons went cold, shooting only 30 percent in the first half. The Rebels took advantage, taking a 35-29 lead at the break behind the inside play of Randall, who had 14 points.

Bremerman, Lynch and Randall made the all-tournament team, along with Cheyney's Michael Fryer and Ryan Webb of Seattle University.

In Saturday's first game Cheyney (Pa.) stunned Seattle U., 79-61. Dominque Curry and Ed Braswell each had 16 points for the Wolves (5-6), who went on a 12-2 at the end of the first half and were never seriously threatened thereafter. Sam Kirby topped the Redhawks (8-3) with 19. Seattle U. shot just 42 percent and was out-rebounded 44-27.

SPU opens Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Thursday at Alaska Anchorage.
