Bremerman Helps Falcon Men Stay Unbeaten at Home
December 29, 2006

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Dec. 29) Behind Dustin Bremerman's 19 points, Seattle Pacific University remained unbeaten at home yet struggled in beating Pennsylvania's Cheney, 75-71, in the first round of the Oak Harbor Freight Lines Classic Friday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Coming off a nine-day hiatus, the Falcons (6-4) took the lead for good on a layup by Brian Lynch (Sr., 6-1, Missoula, Mt.) with 5:56 remaining and held on despite missing 11 free throws-three in the final minute.

After Lynch scored underneath, Bremerman (Sr., 6-4, Yakima, Wwa./Eisenhower) went inside to make it 65-62 and connected on a three-pointer for a 68-64 lead with 3:38 left.

The Wolves (4-6) closed with two but Lynch and JoJay Jackson (Jr., 6-5, Fairfield, Ca.) hit four consecutive foul shots, restoring the advantage to 74-68with 55 seconds to go.

Lynch added 13 points and Drew Matzen (Sr., 6-4, Bothell, Wa./Lynnwood) had 12 and six assists.

Cheyney was paced by the 16 and 10 rebounds of Dawud Morris. The Wolves controlled the boards, 42-29, but shot only 42 percent (26-62). They had 14 offensive rebounds to the Falcons' three.

SPU shot 50 percent from the field, including 11 of 22 treys. They have won 24 consecutive games when shooting at least 50 percent and are 4-0 at home.

Returning from the four-game road trip, Seattle Pacific held the lead for virtually the entire game, but never by more than eight, which was the halftime margin.

Bremerman was 7 of 10 from the floor and made 3 treys.

In the tournament's opening game, Seattle University pulled away in the final 14 minutes to beat Dixie State (Ut.) 87-70. Ryan Webb scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and Ryan Coldren led the Redhawks (8-2) with 16 on near-perfect (5-6) shooting. The Rebels (9-9), who led 35-31 at the half, got 19 from Troy Randall.

SPU faces Dixie State in the final tourney game at 7 p.m. Saturday.
