Falcons Again Fly Behind Fielding for Second Straight Women's Win

LAS VEGAS (Dec. 20) For the second straight day, Autumn Fielding led the Falcons to victory. This time the senior scored a game-high 17 points as Seattle Pacific used a late run to upend Cal Poly Pomona 64-47 in the final day of the Great Northwest Shootout at Valley High School.

The Falcons (6-3) held the Broncos (3-5) without a field goal for the final 7:43 of the game and outscored Pomona 17-3 to pull away for the victory. Seattle Pacific defeated UC San Diego yesterday to finish the tournament a perfect 2-0.

Fielding (Sr., 5-9, Kennewick, Wa.) scored 15 of her final 17 in the second half. She shot 5-for-7 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range. Jackie Hollands (Jr., 5-9, Oregon City, Or.) added 12 points, and Kelsey Hill (So., 6-2, Portland, Or./Portland Christian) chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.

Seattle Pacific led 31-23 at the half and scored the first four points after the break to pull ahead by 12. The Broncos responded minutes later with seven unanswered point to get to within 4, 38-34. Pomona later trimmed the deficit to three on Vanessa Dominguez’s three pointer with 7:43 left to play, but that was Cal Poly’s last field goal of the game

Dominguez was the only Pomona player to score in double figures. She finished with 10 points and four rebounds. Ally Smith and Natasha Reed added eight points apiece.

The Broncos scored the first basket of the game, their only lead of the contest. Seattle Pacific rattled off six straight points and stayed in command the rest of the way.

The Falcons shot 45 percent from the field and held Pomona to 38 percent. SPU also had a 30-25 advantage in rebounding.

The Falcons return home to host No. 4 ranked North Dakota next Saturday (Dec. 30) at 2 p.m. Great Northwest Athletic Conference play tips off the following week.
