December 2, 2006

Complete Box Score

SEATTLE (Dec. 2) On near-perfect shooting, Lexi Schaar and Rachel Strand each scored career highs of 19 and 17 points, respectively, to lead Seattle Pacific University to an 81-64 non-conference victory over previously unbeaten Lewis-Clark State Saturday evening at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (4-1), ranked 19th in NCAA Division II, rebounded from their first loss of the season two nights earlier and remained perfect (4-0) at home. L-C State (8-1) is ranked No. 10 in NAIA Division I.

Seattle Pacific, which was coming off a loss at Gonzaga Thursday, has now won 73 of its last 74 home games.

Schaar (So., 6-4, Crookston, Mn.), whose previous career best was nine points earlier this season, shot 9-of-10 from the field to finish with a game-high 19 points, 11 of them in the second half.

Strand (Sr., 6-0, Shoreline, Wa./King's) connected on all seven of her attempts, including three from behind the arc, to finish with 17 points and a team-high six rebounds. Her previous high was 13 points two season ago.

Strand sparked a first-half surge which broke open the game. She hit back-to-back three-pointers and contributed eight of 14 unanswered points to put SPU in front, 31-18 midway through the half.

The Falcons shot 56 percent in the opening half, with Strand going 5-for-5 and Schaar, who had eight points, 4-for-5. Seattle Pacific pulled ahead by 17 with 5:30 left in the period, but the Warriors were able to cut the deficit down to 12 at the intermission.

L-C State rallied to within seven just two minutes into the second half, but Schaar scored consecutive baskets in between a pair of threes by Jessie Menkens (Sr., 5-10, Battle Ground, Wa./Prairie) to spark a 20-2 run to go in front by 26 and put the game away.

Ashley Baker led the Warriors with 16 points, a game-high nine rebounds and four assists. Aundrea Morrison added 12 points and nine rebounds, and Jade Fulbright scored 14.

Menkens finished with nine points off the bench to lead all reserves, grabbed four rebounds and dished out six assists. Beth Christensen (Jr., 5-5, Enumclaw, Wa.) chipped in nine points and eight assists.

Following final exams, Seattle Pacific visits Sonoma State Friday for the first round of the CCAA/GNAC Challenge.
