LAS VEGAS (Nov. 24) ­ Plagued by poor shooting, No. 4-ranked Seattle Pacific University hit a nine-year scoring low in losing for the first time, 62-52 to UC San Diego in the first round of the Falcon Thanksgiving Classic Friday at the McDermott Center.

The Tritons (1-2) got 15 points from Darryl Lawlor, 13 by Clint Allard and turned back an early second-half SPU rally.

The Falcons' (2-1) Rob Will (Jr., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O'Dea) led all players with 17 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.

Seattle Pacific shot just 37 percent (19-51) from the field, including 3 of 18 three-pointers. UCSD hit 6-13 treys and 40 percent (19-48) overall.

After falling behind by nine, JoJay Jackson (Jr., 6-5, Fairfield, Ca.) and Drew Matzen (Sr., 6-4, Bothell, Wa./Lynnwood) pulled Seattle Pacific within one. A 13-5 spurt featured a rare four-point play and six points by Jackson while Matzen hit a three and a layup. Will's inside basket made it 38-37 with 12:14 remaining.

But three-pointers by Robby Peters and Tyler Acevado helped restore the UCSD advantage to nine and SPU never again threatened.

Will converted 6 of 8 shots but Dustin Bremerman (Sr., Yakima, Wa.) was just 1-9 and scored only five before fouling out.

It was the lowest Falcon point total since the 1997-98 season and first non-conference regional loss in 12 games.

Seattle Pacific plays Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday. The Toros were beaten by No. 2 Montevallo (Al.), 70-67.
