SEATTLE, Wa. (Nov. 18)—Libby Magnuson had 12 points and Jackie Hollands chipped in 10 to lead the Seattle Pacific University women’s basketball team over Azusa Pacific 59-39 in the Sodexho Tip-Off Classic Saturday afternoon at Brougham Pavilion.

Magnuson (Jr., 5-10, White Bear Lake, Mn./Bradley), a transfer from Bradley University, had five rebounds and as many steals to go with her point total. Magnuson connected on 50% (5-10) of her shot attempts.

Hollands (Jr., 5-9, Oregon City, Or.) was six of seven from the free-throw line and had five rebounds en route to being named to the Sodexho Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team. Joining Hollands for Seattle Pacific was forward Rachel Strand (Sr., 6-0, Shoreline, Wa./King’s), whose nine rebounds paced SPU on the glass.

The Falcons went into the locker room at the half with an 12 point lead (28-16) but Azusa Pacific whittled it down to two (36-34) near the second half’s mid-point.

A pair of Strand free-throws capped an 11-0 Falcon run over the next three minutes to make it 47-34 with 6:29 to play.

Azusa Pacific managed just five points over the final 10:40.

The Cougars were led by the 17 points and 10 rebounds of Abby Johnson while Alyssa Ferdaszewski had nine points and nine boards. Both were named to the all-tournament team.

Autumn Fielding (Sr., 5-9, Kennewick, Wa.) was a perfect six of six from the line for SPU and finished with nine points. Magnuson had five steals as SPU forced 28 Cougar turnovers.

Seattle Pacific will play its third straight game without Head Coach Julie van Beek Wednesday night (Nov. 22) when it hosts San Francisco State at Brougham. She underwent foot surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon early Friday morning. Assistant Coach Michelle Skyles will coach the team in her stead. Tip-off is scheduled for 7PM.
