Jackson Paces 4th-Ranked Falcon Men to Win Over Cal Poly Pomona in Sodexho Tip-Off Classic

SEATTLE, Wa. (Nov. 18)—JoJay Jackson poured in a game-high 19 points to pace 4th-ranked Seattle Pacific University to an 84-71 win over Cal Poly Pomona in the final installment of the Sodexho Tip-Off Classic men’s basketball tournament Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Jackson (Jr., 6-5, Fairfield, Ca./Vallejo-Solano JC) had 17 of his points in the first half. The junior pulled nine rebounds off the glass en route to earning a spot on the Sodexho Tip-Off Classic All Tournament Team along with teammate Rob Will (Jr., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O’Dea).

Will finished the evening with 14 points and four rebounds. The junior center broke a school record nine shots in Friday night’s win over Cal State L.A.

Jackson gave the Falcons a three point lead (43-40) heading into the locker room at the half when he hit twine on his fourth trey of the game. The junior shot four for six from beyond the arc on the evening.

The Falcons fell behind 45-47, four minutes into the final half, but redshirt freshman Rob Diedrichs (Fr., 6-8, Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood) sparked Seattle Pacific off the bench, scoring on three straight trips down the hardwood as SPU stormed back with a 17-2 run.

Seattle Pacific never relinquished the lead. Diedrichs finished the night with 14 points on five of eight shooting. He assisted on four plays.

Drew Matzen (Sr., 6-4, Bothell, Wa./Lynnwood) chipped in 13 points, hitting on five of six shots including three of four treys. Dustin Bremerman (Sr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) finished with 11.

Larry Gordon and Kaelen Daniels had 17 apiece for Cal Poly Pomona and had nine and eight rebounds, respectively. All tournament team member Dion Cook scored 15 and had three steals.

The Falcons shot 58% from the field while the Broncos connected on 50%. Cal Poly Pomona held a 33-27 edge on the boards but scored just three of nine three-point attempts. SPU was successful on 11 of 25.

Seattle Pacific travels to Las Vegas, Nevada, for the Falcon Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 24-25. The Falcons tip-off against UC San Diego at 4PM on the 24th.
