SPU Women Open Season With 84-63 Win at Sodexho Tip-Off Classic
November 17, 2006

SEATTLE, Wa. (Nov. 17) – Jackie Hollands scored a game-high 14 points and Rachel Strand had 12 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as Seattle Pacific University opened its women’s basketball season with a 84-63 win over Warner Pacific in the Sodexho Tip-Off Classic at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (1-0) led by 11 at the half and shot 41% from the field on the night. Warner Pacific connected on just 32% of its shot attempts and did not pull closer than 15 over the final ten minutes.

Hollands (Jr., 5-9, Oregon City, Or.) hit the twine on five of 10 shots and shelled out a half-dozen assists. The junior had no turnovers accompanying her assist total and managed five steals from the off-guard position.

Strand (Sr., 6-0, Shoreline, Wa./King’s) had nine of her boards in the second half.

Warner Pacific’s only lead was with 16:22 remaining in the first period. Seattle Pacific capitalized on 11 WPU turnovers, scoring a 30 of its points off the break.

Nicole Brown paced the Knights’ offense with 14 points. Meghan Ainsworth chipped in 13 on seven of eight shooting from the foul line.

SPU tips off Saturday at 5PM in the Sodexho Tip-Off women’s finale. The Falcons take on Azusa-Pacific, who won the afternoon game of the Sodexho, 74-71 against Central Washington.
