Will Sets Record As No. 4 SPU Men Beat Eagles in Sodexho Tip-Off Classic
November 17, 2006

SEATTLE, Wa. (Nov. 17)—Rob Will scored a game-high 18 points and blocked a school record nine shots as the No. 4-ranked Seattle Pacific University men’s basketball team beat Cal State Los Angeles 85-67 in the Sodexho Tip-Off Classic Friday night at Brougham Pavilion. It was the season opener for both teams.

Will’s (Jr., 6-10, Seattle, Wa./O’Dea) block total eclipsed the previous record of eight set by Brannon Stone against Simon Fraser in 1998. The junior center shot a blistering eight for 10 from the field on the night and grabbed seven rebounds off the glass.

Seattle Pacific (1-0) used a 12-1 run mid-way through the second half to pull away from the Eagles. JoJay Jackson (Jr., 6-5, Fairfield, Ca./Vallejo-Solano JC) tossed the ball to Drew Matzen (Sr., 6-4, Bothell, Wa./Lynnwood) for a thunderous dunk to put the exclamation point on the run and give SPU a 61-45 lead with 12:16 left.

Matzen and Jackson finished the game with 11 points apiece.

Dustin Bremerman (Sr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) contributed a quiet 16 points for Seattle Pacific; Rob Diederichs (Fr., 6-8, Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood) chipped in 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds in his college debut.

Vincent Camper led Cal State L.A. with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Jontae Vinson finished with 15 points and seven boards.

Seattle Pacific connected on 53% of its shot-attempts on the evening. The Eagles shot just 35%. SPU held a 41-38 edge on the boards.

The Falcons tip-off against Cal Poly Pomona Saturday night at 7 PM in the final installment of the Sodexho.
