SEATTLE (Nov. 6) Seattle Pacific
University will be facing its first nationally-ranked foe in
nearly a month when it opens NCAA Division II volleyball
tournament play Thursday in San Bernardino, Calif.
The Falcons (24-2) are No. 12 in the final
regular season poll conducted by the AVCA while their first-round
opponent in the Pacific Regional, Chico State, is No. 15. SPU was
2-1 against ranked opponents, sweeping Central Washington and
falling to BYU Hawaii in the opening match of the season. The
second win over the Wildcats was Oct. 12.
Seattle Pacific has won 18 matches in a row
going into the postseason. This is the Falcons' highest national
ranking.
Seven of the eight teams in the regional are in
the top 25, led by top-seeded Cal State San Bernardino (25-1) at
No. 4. Undefeated BYU Hawaii is No. 8, UC San Diego No. 11, Cal
State L.A. No. 23 and Central Washington No. 25.
