Von Moos, Johnson Get Top Honors in GNAC Volleyball

SEATTLE (NOV. 6) ­ Seattle Pacific University setter Jenna Von Moos has been selected the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Volleyball player of the year, and is among three Falcons voted to the all-conference first team.

Von Moos (Sr., Stanwood, Wa.), who led the Falcons to their second straight GNAC title, was a unanimous choice of the coaches. She averaged 13.20 assists per game in leading SPU to a 24-2 record, including a perfect 16-0 GNAC record.

Seattle Pacific will take an 18-match win streak into the NCAA Division II Pacific Regionals, which begin Thursday at San Bernardino, Calif. SPU meets Chico State in a first-round match.

The Falcons' Chris Johnson, a graduate of Interlake High School in Bellevue and Westmont College, shared GNAC coach of the year honors with Western Washington's Diane Flick.

Johnson has a 46-7 record in two seasons. His Falcons are ranked 12th in the nation and seeded fourth in the Pacific Region.

Von Moos was joined on the first team all-conference squad by outside hitter Alyssa Given (Jr., Salinas, Ca./Notre Dame) and middle hitter Rachel Biornstad (Jr., Kent, Wa./Kentlake). Rounding out the first team were Western Washington libero Courtney Schneider, Central Washington setter Lindsey Dollente, CWU right-side hitter Kristin Pasley, Cammy Draginis of Northwest Nazarene and Megan Thigpen of Alaska Fairbanks .

Von Moos and Given, who led the conference in kills (4.58), were repeat selections and were also two of three unanimous picks.

Receiving honorable mention were outside Shelby Gihring (Sr., Kent, Wa./Kentlake) and right side Angie Wodrich (Jr., Richland, Wa.).
