October 30, 2006

SEATTLE (Oct. 30) Seattle Pacific University has reached the NCAA Division II men's soccer tournament for a record 30th time and is seeded No. 2 in the Far West Regional beginning Thursday (Nov. 2) at Carson, Ca. The Falcons will face Cal State L.A. in a first-round game at 4 p.m.

Host Cal State Dominguez Hills (12-8-1) is the top seed and plays Seattle University (11-7-0) at 7 Thursday. The regional championship game will be 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Falcons (12-6-0), ranked No. 8 in last week's national coaches poll, defeated Cal State L.A. (12-8-1) in the teams' only previous meeting this season. SPU won 2-0 Sept. 2 on a neutral field behind goals from Andy Willis and Michael Morris.

This marks the third time Seattle Pacific has been pitted against CSLA in the postseason. The Falcons won 1-0 on the road in 1992 and 7-0 at home in 1994.

It was Cal State Dominguez Hills' 2-0 victory over Seattle Pacific Aug. 29 which helped the Toros earn the high seed.

The Far West winner will face the Midwest champion in the national quarterfinal round Nov. 11 or 12 at a site to be determined. Fort Lewis (Co.), the defending national champion, is the top seed in the Midwest.
